As many of you know, I had a second GT2530 crap out on me a couple months back. In all my searches for a company who could source a CHRA for the GT2530, I found out that because it's an HKS exclusive product, no one can get the CHRA for me. I figured since Garrett made it, I might be able to get it, but whatever, I was wrong. I'm not going through HKS to get a pair of new CHRA's because they take too long, they're overpriced, and I've had enough bad experience with GT2530's to last me a lifetime. This led me to look elsewhere... more specifically, to the GT28R and GT28RS. Due to their availability and similarity to the GT2530, I think the GT28RS would be a great cost-effective alternative. But I'm cheap, so there-in lies the issue. I have two GT2530's sitting in my garage, and the housings are still fine. I won't buy used turbos, and I don't have the money to buy two entirely new GT28RS's. My question: can I use a GT28RS CHRA with my HKS GT2530 housings? Considering the CHRA's are available from ~$600-$700 brand new, I figure I can replace both turbos for ~$1300 if I can reuse my GT2530 housings. That's enough savings to make it worthwhile, in my opinion. Would there be any downsides to doing this? Any input is appreciated. This isn't something I plan to do NOW, but before I look further into doing this, I'd like to know if reusing my GT2530 housings to make a GT28RS turbo is even possible.
